NX Coventry wins top UK Bus Award
Alan Jones, Coventry Council, and Bernard Delaney, MD National Express Coventry at UK Bus Awards
National Express Coventry is celebrating after winning a top prize at the recent UK Bus Awards. They beat off strong competition from many other bus companies to win The Infrastructure Award for their innovative Primelines Partnership.
The Infrastructure Award celebrates investments in projects that help to make bus passengers’ lives better, both as they wait for the bus, and as they travel. ‘Well, that’s just what the Coventry Primelines Partnership is all about,’ said MD Bernard Delaney. ‘Over the past few years we have worked very closely with Coventry City Council, and between us we have created an improved bus network that has seen a 13% rise in satisfaction levels of bus users.’
The Primelines Project has already introduced 5.3km of bus lanes, 4.9km of red routes, 70 new bus shelters, 19 real time displays and 80 new bus priority traffic lights in Coventry. The £41.5million project has been jointly funded via the West Midlands Local Transport Plan, National Express Coventry and Centro. Early results are impressive with 47% of households changing their travel behaviour and reducing car usage.
"I want to offer a huge ‘thank you’ to all my Coventry team," said Bernard who is pictured above right with Alan Jones from Coventry City Council, "I accepted this award on behalf of all of you. It reflects the hard work and commitment that you have all offered, whatever your role, to our customers - thank you and well done."
Congratulations also go to Mark Kipling from Acocks Green for being ‘Highly Commended’ in the Young Manager of the Year category.
